First, thank you... thank you for your time in visiting my site, and thank you for
your interest in what I have to say.
I am a high school drop-out. I am also a retired veterinarian who practiced on
Hilton Head Island for 15 years. Today I make a 6-figure income working from home.
Please let me take a few minutes to tell you how I got from there to
here, and how you can too.
When I was 9 years old my mother and I faced
eviction from our home. My mother was divorced. My father had been
killed. My grandfather came to our rescue and gave us $125.00 to
pay our rent for 3 months, buy food and buy some new school
clothes.
$125! In my subconscious, it was a magical
figure. Every time I needed something big, guess what would show
up? That's right! $125!
To my subconscious, that was a lot of money.
But as I got older, $125 had less and less buying power. So I had
to change my subconscious. I wonder, are you operating on old
childhood data that needs to be modified? Are you now working at a job or
profession that you decided on when you were 18?
Things change and times change... I know I have gone through many life changes.
The biggest was when I could not practice any more — I was trapped in
a very complicated job I had created for myself. But back to my
story.
I dropped out of high school in my senior
year and took the first of many jobs, from driving a dump truck to
fixing looms in a cotton mill. I moved to a small town in the
mountains of North Carolina to join a business venture. The
venture did not work out and I found myself with no income and
little prospect of changing that picture.
Someone said, "Get an education." I
thought they must be right - that must be the secret to
success. How many times have you heard,
"To be successful you must get a good education"?
Not always the case!
I went to veterinary school—8 years of
college. More than anything I liked working with animals. So I thought I
would build a large practice, complete with pet shop, grooming
parlor, and boarding kennels. Now I would surely have some free time with my backup employees. Big
mistake! I worked harder than ever and had no time for my family
or myself. I was trapped!
One day I watched my oldest daughter walk
across the yard and thought to myself, I'm
doing just what I said I'd never do. I had had no father
growing up, and
I was determined to always have time for my children, but that was not
happening with this plan I had signed into. I had to make a change!
One thing I heard that really made sense to
me was this: Look at people who have been doing what you are doing
for 15 years longer than you and see if they are happy and have
what you want. Try it—Are your peers where you
want to be in 15 years? Do they have the money, time, and freedom
you want?
I looked at some of the wealthiest people on Hilton
Head Island who seemed to have plenty of time and money. I
discovered two things:
- Some fortunate few had inherited a trust fund of $3 million at 21 years
of age. That wasn't going to happen to me - I was almost 40!
- Others had developed residual income from some
business - I mean, every month a check came even if they played
golf most of the month.
I knew that if I
kept doing what I was doing, I would keep getting the same
results. (They say the definition of insanity is doing the same
thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome.) I
needed to develop a different plan, but where to start? Residual
income seemed the only real possibility...
About this time a
lady came to me with one of those multi-level things - Herbal
Life. I was intrigued and curious about this strange business. So
was a U.S. Senate investigating committee. They wanted to know how
this 24-year-old kid named Mark was making several million dollars
a month. Something must be crooked. Nevertheless, the questions
were going smoothly until Mark indelicately told Senator Sam Erwin
that he was fat, old, and needed to get on his weight loss
product. I knew it was all over for Herbal Life, and it was, for
years!
Several months
later, I was invited to the home of the son of one of the founders
of Hilton Head Island to discuss a partnership raising Black Angus
cattle - at least I thought that was the subject of our meeting.
You guessed it! It was an Amway meeting!
As I sat there
watching this retired doctor present the products, I realized that
I had always worked hard but not smart. I realized that if I found
something others could make money with, and helped them do it for
just a small percentage commission, I could be on the beaches of
the world and checks would still come in! Could Amway be it? It
did have the power of duplicating my efforts. John Paul Getty, the
richest man in the world at that time, said, "Give me 1
percent of the efforts of 100 people rather than 100 percent of
one person's efforts." That made sense... If I depended on my
labor alone, and I was sick, there was no income.
But as I drove
home, I kept thinking how I had been tricked into this Amway
meeting. The more I thought about it, the madder I got, till by
the time I got home I was so upset I put my information package in
the attic and never looked at it again!
Yet this
business of network marketing stuck with me. I spent the next 3
years and about $30,000 talking to top producers and presidents of
different companies. What made these companies work? What
products, compensation plans, timing, etc., did you really need to
be successful? I looked and looked, and tried a couple of
companies, and finally decided that mostly it was done with smoke
and mirrors, with most of the income coming from the internal
consumption of the dealer base! But I learned what I needed to
know to be successful in network distribution.
I started my
own network marketing company, manufacturing and selling water
purifiers, but our main thrust was in alternate operator services.
We landed a huge contract with Ma Bell - Ma Bell had just been
broken up and our contract was with another company who had just been divested
with a billion-dollar pie to be carved up, and our supplier could
not produce. We lost the contract. I gave up!
I leaned
toward holistic medicine and opened a clinic in Myrtle Beach doing
acupuncture, homeopathy, herbal and frequency medicine. Just an
answering machine and me—no large practice for me ever again! I
now had freedom and time for my family... but no money!
A friend of
mine came to me with a new revolutionary technology for air
purification. I didn't want to sell air filters - I saw them in Wal-Mart.
You know what we're told.... "we just need to be better listeners."
I passed on
the opportunity, but I couldn't get it out of my mind. If this
product really did what he told me it would, the market was huge
($90 billion, I later found out).
Nine months
later I decided to try one of my friend's "magic boxes".
My grandmother had a real odor problem at her house—she was 90
years old and had a non-housebroken dog for the last 4 years. The
house smelled worse than any kennel I had ever been in. I called
my friend and told him to send me a unit. The rest is history. It
worked so well I ordered 6 more units. I knew I could sell
anything that worked that well for odors. I didn't know about
allergies, asthma, sinus problems, migraine headaches—all that
would come later. I just knew that people with pet and
smoking odors would buy these units!
What happened?
In 6 weeks I was earning $1000 a week just letting people
try our units! Boy, was I excited! But, you know what? The most
exciting part was not the thousand a week. I had finally found
something that fit what Getty said! I could now show other people
how to make money just by letting people try these machines! It
would work! I was making $1000 a week just part-time! "Just
imagine what could
be done full-time?", I dreamed. I could now build a real business with residual
income!
This was what I had been looking for, for 6 long
years and thousands of dollars invested!
Just when I had given up... the real opportunity had arrived! I then had a
realization that with this technology I could help more people
with their health problems using this marvelous machine than I
ever could running a solo practice. I knew that most of
our health problems are immune-related and this technology freed
up the immune system to deal with more serious problems than dust
mites, mold, mildew and thousands of other pollutants in the air.
I made
$7000.00 my seventh month in the business. Then I went full-time, and in my
9th month I made a whopping $25,000 for the month! And
here is the really exciting part—I had set up dealers who
were making $2000, $5000, and $10,000 themselves! It was a win-win
situation!
